Work comment

This Suite was composed for piano in Marstrand in the summer of 1871. Hägg played it in the Tonkünstlerverein in Dresden on 8 January, 1872, at the same concert as where the first performance of his Cello Sonata took place. Wilhelm Stenhammar performed the Suite in Stockholm on 24 March, 1896.
The version for orchestra seems to have been made much later. In the autograph, the scherzo is dated 18 February, 1916.
The parts material was worked out in March 1917, but the orchestra seems to only have performed movements nos. 1 and 2, e.g., in Hudiksvall on 19 March, 1921.
