There is an note on the title page stating that this work was composed for baritone, male choir, and orchestra. At the beginning of movement no. 5, however, there is also a tenor solo

'Rolighed' [Serenity] was the name of Mr. Moritz Melchior (1816-1884) and Mrs. Dorothea Melchior's (1823-1885) summer house in Copenhagen [see Kantate ved Herr Moritz Melchiors og Fru Dorothea Melchiors Sølvbryllup]. This is also where H.C. Andersen died
