Description of work

I: Skalan [The scale]
a. Two-part. 1st section: 14 settings of the scale in C major and C minor (nos. 1–7, each including a variant with cantus firmus in the treble part, and one with cantus firmus in the bass part), 2nd section: 12 settings, 3rd section: 9 settings, 4th section: 2 settings, 5th sectoin: 4 settings (no. 3 is designed as a scherzo with no. 4 as trio).
b. Three-part. 1:a section: 2 settings (oddly enough, these are not settings of the scale, but of two chorales), 2nd [– 3rd] section (titled 2nd section, only): 12 settings (numbered 1–13, albeit no. 6 is missing), 4th section: 5 settings, 5th section: 2 settings.

II: Koraler [Chorales]
[a. Two-part]: 1st section: Swedish hymnal no. 407: 4 settings, 2nd section: Swedish hymnal no. 407: one setting.
[b.] Three-part: 3:e section: one setting each of Swedish hymnals nos. 429, 198, 2, 63, and 33

This work should rather be regarded as a counterpoint sample collection
