Work comment
Movements nos. 1 and 2 were composed in 1868, whereas movements nos. 3 and 4 seem to have been added later. They are identical to movements nos. 3 and 4 of Symfoni G-dur [Symphony in G major], which was composed at the end of the 1870s (in Norrtälje). The trio may have been added much later. Both in terms of musical style and hand the work's two halves differ from each other.
In one of the autographs, movement no. 1 is dated 27 October, 1868. After movement no. 2 there is an incription: 'Skizziert in juli'.
At the top of page 1 in one of the autographs there is the following inscription: 'Huldigung an Franz Berwald'
