At the time of composing this work, F W Klint was organist etc. at the Östergarn church on the east coast of the island of Gotland, but had previously been working in the Huguenot Franska reformerta kyrkan [L'Église réformée française] in Stockholm. In 1870, the Östergarn organ was moved to the Bunge church in the north of Gotland. Niklas Hägg, to whom this piece is dedicated, was involved in the move, which makes it plausible that this organ fantasia was composed in connection to that event.
