Work comment

According to Bo Wallner's commentary in the score, Ludvig Norman was not the sole composer of string quartets at the middle of the 19th C. Fredrik W Klint (1811-94) - organist and piano teacher, periodically working on the island of Gotland, was the most prolific one. He wrote 6 Quartets, the last of which (the one in A major Opus 25 no 2) was printed by the Musikaliska Konstföreningen [Swedish Art Music Society] and the first Quartet (in G minor Opus 10 no 1) received acclaim from Court Kapellmeister [Julius] Rietz in Dresden, Kapellmeister [Niels W.] Gade in Copenhagen, and from the Swedish Art Music Society in Stockholm. Each of these works shows a more classical than romantic style, with an expression and form that scarcely surpass a modest level.
