Work comment

According to Arne Aulin's foreword in the printed edition, in 1891, Peterson-Berger sent his newly composed work to prominent cellist Franz Neruda, who, however, did not return it, nor has it been found in Neruda's collection at the Det kgl. Bibliotek [Royal Library] in Copenhagen.
This edition is therefore based on a variant (somewhat shorter than the one sent to Neruda), which the composer found among his papers in his last year of life.
