Work comment

Authenticated work (according to Holm)

At the top of the autograph Roman has written 'INI' (In Nomine Iesu [In the name of Jesus]) and after the last bar 'GvL' (Gud vare Lof/Lov [God be praised]

The work was composed for the jubilation service commanded by Frederick I on 14/25 June (see below), 1730 and was performed by the Hovkapellet (The Royal Court Orchestra) with soloists. In accordance with the model of Handel, Roman's Te Deum is connected with his Jubilate (see separate registration of that work).

1730 was a jubilee year as the Protestant denominations celebrated the 200th anniversary of the submission of the Augsburg Confession to the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Augsburg. In Sweden, as was the case in Protestant churches in other countries, a jubilation service took place on 14 June (Gregorian calendar) albeit according to the Julian calendar, the date of the submission was 25 June. - Eva Helenius, Johan Helmich Roman's Te Deum & Jubilate and a Lutheran feast divine service (in press 2019).
