Work comment
Sjögren worked on this composition periodically from 1914 until his death in 1918. [His wife] Berta Sjögren asked [composer and organist] Otto Olsson (1879-1964) to complete the work, and it was subsequently published by Wilhelm Hansen. The last 14 bars of the Prélude and the last 15 bars of the Fugue are by Olsson.
In connection with the work on an edition of Sjögren's complete works for organ, parts of the last section of the Fugue were found. Most likely, Olsson was not aware of them when completing this composition.
On the basis of these pages in Sjögren's hand, Jan H Börjesson has put together an alternative finish, and has also composed the last 12 bars.
