Work comment
Unusually enough for this music genre, this piece is furnished with a motto (from 'The Song of the Sun' included in the Poetic Edda).
In his book Livsresa med violinen. En kartläggning av Henri Marteaus insatser för musiken i Sverige [Life journey with the violin. A survey of Henri Marteau's contributions to music in Sweden] (1995), Carl-Gunnar Åhlén states that also Valentin composed for Marteau, e.g., an Adagio, which was an almost obligatory part of their joint concerts, including their nation-wide tour in November 1896 rounding off their collaboration.
